Augustus B. Cheatham Cmdr 1968-1969 - XO - Submitted 7/28/09

I was looking at the history of Estes. My father served aboard Estes. He served as X-O under Captain Hansen and Capt. Rogers. The wonderful BOSN Johnny Boy Wade was my most favorite crew member. I remember how sad he was stripping her out. On dependents' cruises, he always made sure I got down to the engine room (my favorite area of the ship) and had a steaming mug of coffee. I still have my wardroom mug, just like my dad's, but with my name on it, that BOSN Wade had made for me.

Amongst my father's treasures, I still have an Estes wall plaque. Dad loved that ship.
