Good afternoon,
I am an Army combat veteran who served in Iraq in 2010.
WWII history is a big passion of mine and I recently came across some old images at an antique shop. Curiosity got me and I looked through. I ended up finding an image with an officer and a throwing buoy bearing the “Estes” name.
Then additional images came up, one of a framed portrait of what may be the Estes. There were not many command ships of this nature built, so I assume the images are related.
Other images include celebratory functions and a portrait of a crew member in the Navy in that time period.
To the point, I want to donate these images to your organization. I know Navy vets are highly attached to the ships they crewed, even today. If my MRAP in Iraq had a name, I would be too.
Editor's Note:
The following images were found in an antique shop as stated above. We really appreciate the efforts to track the images back to our ship, and the donation to us.
The people and events shown are not known. I believe they are somehow related to the First Anniversary following the Recommissioning, which places them in 1952. If anyone can identify them further, please contact the editor at radraves@gmail.com.
