I came onboard when the ship was in dry docks in Long Beach, worked on the deck force for 2 or 3 months chipping paint. Personnel found in my files I could type and I got a job in Payroll for approx. 8 months and then transferred to Personnel Dept. until 1966.

I will always remember WestPac 1965 anchored off the coast of Vietnam, having steak cook-out and swim call, watching the beach being bombed by our planes and ships around us.
