Gerald (Jerry) G. Smith ET-2  1947-1949 - - Submitted 10/7/08

Came aboard in Tsingtao, China, direct from Treasure Island ET school in mid-47. Most of ship time was as berthed in Tsingtao. Voyaged back in early 49, was part of the moth balling effort, Bremerton, WA, up to time of discharge, May 1949.

In command but living ashore in Tsingtao at that time were Admiral's Cook and Badger (?) (Not sure re the name 'Badger'). Remember stringing a special insulated clothes line Rhombic antenna at one of the Admiral's ashore residence so he could receive Arms Forces Radio. Even got a cold beer for the weekend work.

Lived in Grand Rapids, (actually Ada) working for Lear, Inc., from 1955 to well into 1963. All adventurous times....
